Nakupenda means I love you in Swahili. The name fits. It is a white sandbank off Stone Town, surrounded by water in four shades of blue.

The boat ride out takes twenty minutes. Then the day slows down. You swim, you snorkel, you do absolutely nothing in the sun. The crew grills lunch on the spot: fresh fish, octopus, fruit.

Most guests combine it with a short stop at Prison Island to meet the giant tortoises. Say so when you book and we build it in.

Abdalla, or one of his trusted friends

Born and raised on Zanzibar. Abdalla guides whenever he can. When he is fully booked, a guide from his own circle steps in. All of them from the island, all of them vetted.

Is there shade on the sandbank?
The crew sets up a simple shade cloth, but the sandbank is open sun. Bring strong sunscreen and a hat. This is not a day to forget them.
When is the sandbank above water?
It depends on the tide, so departure times shift a little day to day. We confirm your exact pickup time the evening before.
